“We are working in this institution to make Malaysia a healthier, more developed and more competitive country and I am proud that the MIC Youth recognizes this and today we are cementing our great partnership.”

Today was a great day for Malaysia and a particularly great day for the Malaysian Indian Community.  It so happens that Lincoln College and the Malaysian Indian Council signed an agreement today to work hand in hand to bring more access to education to those in need.     This translates into real results for those Malaysian Indian students who excel in their studies but, might not be able to afford a college education.  The MOU which was signed today by the Selangor MIC Youth Chief, Mr. Shankar Raj Ayenger and the Principal of Lincoln College, Dr. Amiya Bhaumik seeks to ensure a few things:

1.      To work to enhance the educational exposure in the Malaysian Indian community;
2.      To provide Ethnic Malaysian Indian students an opportunity to upgrade their skills and knowledge;
3.      To provide the best training available at Lincoln College as per MQA and IPTS requirements;
4.      To provide scholarships and assistance to excellent and needy students

Mr. Shankar stressed in his remarks the reason why Lincoln College was chosen for this collaboration was because of its attitude of social responsibility.  He specifically noted that Lincoln College has no registration fees and no application fees.  Transportation, accommodation, and uniforms are all provided free.  Aside from this, Health Science students even receive an RM250 allowance per month.  With all of these great things being provided he said it is in the best interest of the country and the Indian community to help to foster the relationship with such an institution.
The President of Lincoln College Datuk Dr. HJH Bibi Florina binti Abdullah was also on hand at the signing as well and stated, “ There are two prevailing philosophies at Lincoln College: 1. Social Responsibility   2.  Teaching practical skills that students can use once they enter the job market.   These are both important attitudes to have, not simply because they instill responsibility and make people more marketable but, because they are part of an attitude to help develop Malaysia further.”  Later she also remarked, “We are working in this institution to make Malaysia a healthier, more developed and more competitive country and I am proud that the MIC Youth recognizes this and today we are cementing our great partnership.”
The MIC Youth and Lincoln College are also seeking to sign a more in depth agreement in a few weeks time as well.  It seems that this will be a productive and fruitful arrangement for not just both parties, but for every Indian who has dreamed of pursuing an education.
